Rodimus and Co. find themselves in a dangerous place. Even more dangerous than on a planet that exploded from the inside. That's already pretty dangerous. But where they are now? Oh boy.

Transformers Lost Light #2 eBook James Roberts Jack Lawrence

James Roberts work on Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye (MTMTE) was a superlative run of 10 trades that concluded a little over a year ago (it ran concurrent to the very good Robots in Disguise series by John Barber). The crew of the lost light has mostly reunited and is continuing their search for the lost Knights of Cybertron.

The stories are still decent and the dialogue has some smart comments and a few funny moments. Mr. Roberts has moved on from featuring Cyclonus, Whirl, Ratchet, Rung, and other characters that he really developed well. Mr. Roberts is clearly trying to develop a new group pf characters (perhaps he is tired of the aforementioned ones). Rodimus is still around, but his antics reek of Hot Rod since losing the Matrix and he only works when balanced out by Ultra Magnus. There is only a little of that, as Ultra Magnus has largely been sidelined as well. Most significantly, the absences of Megatron is felt. He was a meteor that changed the nature of the book and caused every other Transformer to have a reaction. It was incredible storytelling. I expect he'll be returning in some new iteration.

Mr. Roberts has down a good enough job over the last 6 years that I'll keep reading what he writes on Transformers, but this was a bit disappointing when compared to previous trades by him.

Transformers Lost Light #2 eBook James Roberts Jack Lawrence Reviews

Great artwork, great story. I've been a Transformers fanboy since '86 so I'm a bit biased. Happy to see them remain relevant.
The #1 didn't catch my eyes so much but now is different. The plot is going to be serious and many interesting situations and characters hold your attention. I can' t wait for Lost Light #3!
I, personally, am a big fan of the MTMTE series, and think the Lost Light is also great, but this graphic novel is quite sad, and I can assure you that you will absolutely HATE Getaway by the end. Despite that, it has a good storyline and the artwork was very good. Most of It’s by Jack Lawrence, whose style is quite similar to Alex Milne’s except it’s more manga-ish (Is that a word?). It also leaves off on a cliff hanger, as expected, so if you buy this book you should probably get the third one at the same time.
Continues to be some of the most interesting character drama that just happens to be about giant transforming robots.
As a fan of Transformers More Than Meets the Eye, as well as Lost Light for some time, I am pleased to say that I am more than happy to have picked up this newest collection of stories from the next step of the title ship's quest. As for how I feel about them as a whole, in order of story arc for convenience
*Dissolution Epilogue (Issue #6)- The comic wraps up most of the plot points of "Season 3's" first major story ark very well, with some interesting character growth, unsolved and solved mysteries, as well as a very heartbreaking ending sure to leave those following the overall narrative and the relationships of the characters saddened and pinning for more. Top it off with some good ol' art by Jack Lawrence and you got yourself a solid conclusion to an enjoyable adventure, 8/10
*The Grief Arc (Issues #8-9) While probably one of the more flawed plots in the series' run, I still believe that these two comics offer up some more nice world building, more background into some recently-added main protagonists, and a lot more insight into some narrative points that have been built up since the very start of MTMTE, including the return of those who long-time fans have not seen or heard from in some time. While I do agree with many on how the messages about how losing others can affect oneself could have been tackled much better, I still think that it is worth the time, most notably for the overarching mystery and the development on Nautica's person. 7/10
*The Mutineers Trilogy (Issues #10-12)- Now this is a story that I believe a lot of fans have been waiting on since the end of MTMTE #50 and, at least in my opinion, it did not disappoint. We get the dramatic return of First Aid and the Protectobots, learning the full story behind the mutiny on our main characters in the first place, enemies from the distant past return, followed up elements from Combiner Wars of all things, and the 3 issues stand to make the character of Getaway look SO much worse (essentially making him full-on evil by this point). Outside from a jarring and otherwise pointless interlude in-between issues and some plot elements that don't particularly add up, the complete package itself left me with a smile on my face and begging to find out what's next. Definitely check it out, though be warned that not every bot will make it out of this in one piece, 8.5/10.
In conclusion, this volume of Lost Light offers very intriguing and entertaining stories pertaining to some of our favorite heroes and most despised villains, along with good art, witty humor, and a very cool adventure plotline. Check it out! 😊
